BUILDING PERMITS:  These numbers provide a generalindication of the amount of new housing stock that may have been added to thehousing inventory. Since not all permits become actual housing starts andstarts lag the permit stage of construction, these numbers do not representtotal new construction, but should provide a general indicator of constructionactivity and the local real estate market.
