United Way of the Piedmont is a private, not-for-profit organization governed by a local board of volunteers and as such is accountable to the local community.  It serves the people of Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union counties. Its mission is to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.

Spartanburg County is governed by a seven-member council with six single member districts and a Chairman, the Honorable Jeff Horton, elected at large. The council determines policies and direction while an appointed County Administrator directs day-to-day activities. Within Spartanburg County, there are 13 municipalities. The 2010 census identified the population of the county at 284,307.  Spartanburg County Government joined the Spartanburg Community Indicators Project in 2006 as a sponsoring partner.  They recognize the importance of a community working together toward common goals.

Mary Black Foundation logo Founded in 1996 as a private grantmaking organization, the mission of the Mary Black Foundation is to invest in people and communities for improved health, wellness, and success in Spartanburg County, SC.  Our vision is that Spartanburg County is a thriving and connected community where diverse and educated citizens lead active and healthy lives.  The Foundation works to improve health and wellness through its two priority areas – Early Childhood Development and Healthy Eating | Active Living – and through its Community Health Fund. 
Spartanburg Regional Foundation logo Health care is a vital part of all of our lives. Good health allows each of us to live life to the fullest. Since 1991, the Spartanburg Regional Foundation has been raising funds to help improve the quality of health care in our community. The Spartanburg Regional Foundation is a 501©3 non-profit charitable organization whose primary mission is to benefit the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System through direct financial support and through support of programs and services that share the Spartanburg Regional mission of providing high-quality health care to the community.
Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce logo The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce includes three distinct identities: The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, The Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (also known as the S-CVB), and the Economic Futures Group. Spartanburg is somewhat unique in having all three entities under the same umbrella. This structure provides the opportunity for a unified effort in promoting and developing the business and economic climate of the county, while streamlining costs and efficiencies.
