Domestic violence is a learned and culturally-reinforced pattern of behavior.
Without intervention, domestic violence may become intergenerational and more
destructive over time. In 2003, spousal abuse constituted 51.9% of domestic assault
in Spartanburg County and 53.8% in South Carolina. Domestic violence rates in
South Carolina are among the highest in the nation.
