Goal 2: Our citizens will have access to the education and training needed to
compete in a global business environment.
There is value in an educated citizenry, well prepared for work and participation
in community life. This goal focuses onlearning after high school and in the work
force. It underscores the importance of post-secondary education and training
needed to compete in an international economy.
The indicators inform us:
- All South Carolina high school students are required to pass exit exams. Competition
in today’s business environment will make this only the first step toward success
in a competitive world.
- Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SAT), ACT Assessment Test (ACT), and General Educational
Development (GED) testing are indicators of future success in a student’s choice
of career opportunities. At each level of post-secondary education, from technical
college to advanced degrees, we must provide a supportive environment that encourages
each student to achieve at his or her potential.
