Family
|
The family is the first and most basic institution in any community. The U.S.
Census Bureau has defined a family as "two or more persons related by birth, marriage,
or adoption, who reside together." Thus, a family can be two or more adult siblings
living together, a parent and child or children, two adults who are related by
marriage but have no children, or adults who adopt a child. The family, whether
defined narrowly or broadly, is the intersection point for nearly all of the 10
goals and 60 indicators contained in the 2005 Community Indicators report. Healthy,
stable, and nurturing families make a tremendous impact on improving our community,
which makes goal 4 and 5 very important. They can have huge implications on all
the other goals. In the following pages you will find information on the goals
and indicators that are grouped under "family." You can navigate to the goal
from either the top or by clicking below. Once you reach a goal page, a menu will
pop down on the right helping you navigate through the indicators, find information
on the Community Improvement Plan, and discover much needed resources to meet
the goal.
