Hospitalization Rates (Heart Disease,Cancer, Stroke, Diabetes)
|
These illnesses are among the most frequent causes of hospitalization. Hospital
costs averaged $21,860 for strokes; $34,538 for heart disease; $25,659 for cancer
and $18,448 for diabetes. A primary reason for hospitalization for any medical
condition is the severity of that condition when the patient first seeks treatment.
Improved access to primary care and to prevention programs have been shown to
reduce hospitalization rates.
