Goal 1:
More than 77 percent of South Carolina 10th-graders passed the state's HSAP exit exam on their first attempt during spring 2007. That represented nearly a 2.4 percentage-point improvement over 2006 and a 5.3 percentage point improvement over 2005. To read the complete article click here.
 
Goal 8:
Through CitizenObserver, residents and businesses can sign up for free to receive crime alerts via e-mail, cell phones, pagers and fax. To enroll, visit the department's Web site at spsdonline.org or call police at 596-2035. Officers also will be visiting local businesses to explain how the program works and how to register.

Spartanburg residents now can text tips to police through an anonymous text message program geared toward young people scared to give police information on crime in the community. Text-a-tip, announced Thursday morning, is already up and running and one of only a few similar programs in the nation, Spartanburg Public Safety Director Tony Fisher said. The message is routed through an out-of-state company, which "cleans" the message of the identifying phone number before sending it on to police, who can then text back, he said.
