The Spartanburg County FoundationCreated by the citizens of a local area, The Spartanburg County Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity that helps people accomplish their philanthropic goals. We work in partnership with concerned citizens, nonprofits and governments to achieve community goals and maximize grantmaking effectiveness. United Way of the PiedmontUnited Way of the Piedmont is a private, not-for-profit organization governed by a local board of volunteers and as such is accountable to the local community. Our services cover three counties: Cherokee, Spartanburg and Union. Our mission is to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another. Spartanburg County GovernmentSpartanburg County is governed by a seven-member council with six single member districts and a Chairman, the Honorable Jeff Horton, elected at large. The council determines policies and direction while an appointed County Administrator directs day-to-day activities. Within Spartanburg County, there are 12 municipalities. According to the 2000 census figures, the population stood at 253,791. Spartanburg County Government joined the project in 2006 becoming a primary sponsor. They recognize the importance of a community working together towardcommon goals.
