Spartanburg County has the second highest number of roadway miles and had the
highest number of commercial motor vehicle (a truck with six or more tires, or
a vehicle with a hazardous materials placard, or a bus designed to carry 16 or
more persons, including the driver) collisions in South Carolina in 2002. South
Carolina's rate of traffic fatalities per vehicle miles has continually been above
the national average.
